Dealing efficiently with junk mail and other paperwork around the house

Moved, Please Forward

At one point in my life I ran a boarding house, well you can imagine just how much junk mail I got! It got to the point where it became unmanageable. What I did to combat this never-ending assault was to go to a stamp shop and purchase a stamp that said "Moved, Please Forward". As soon as any unwanted mail arrived in my mailbox I no sooner looked at it when I would take my trusty, little, red stamp and stamp MOVED, PLEASE FORWARD and put it out for the mailman to take the next day. It completely took care of all my unwanted mail.

Another option is to use the prepaid postage for any magazines and junk mail to mail back a brick in a box, after receiving the bill for this you can be assured that you wont be getting any more unwanted magazines or junk mail. This is perfectly legal, just tape the prepaid postage to the front of the box, pack the brick, rocks or you might want to be creative and put a broken appliance in the box and and mail it.

Regarding other relatively wanted mail I would recommend two items, one an online banking account and the other a shredder. Any bills that would come in were immediately paid via my online banking account and then shredded. The online banking account keeps records of when and who you paid so you don't have to. The other few items that I did want to keep I threw in a box until tax time when I went through it. Since it was a relatively small pile (due to the stamp and the online account) it was manageable and didn't take to long. Happy stamping and shredding!
