Quick Cash - 21 way to make fast money in one day or less!

79

By Brie Hoffman

In order to get money fast you either have to sell something, borrow something, or beg for something. My idea of fast cash is making cash that day, not in a week, but in that day.

Here are some ideas that you may not have thought of before. Some are well worn, others are a bit edgy but hey you need money and a man's got to do what a man's (or woman's) got to do!

OK for starters, the usual suspects:

  1. Payday loans: I hate to even mention these because they are such ripoffs but they ARE a way to get money fast so I'm mentioning it, but I don't like it (just so it's noted)!
  2. Sell Blood: This has been a tried and true method for fast cash for a long time now...why? Because it works.
  3. Sell something on Craigslist, Ebay or have a garage sale: Look around your place, what do you have that you don't need, put an ad and sell it. If you don't have anything see if your neighbor, friend or acquaintance does and see if they will let you sell their stuff for a cut. Many people are too busy to do it themselves and they would be glad to let you do it for them.
  4. Collect Bottles and Cans: Or what I call homeless work. Hey they aren't collecting bottles and cans for nothing!
  5. Borrow it: If you have family or friends...ask them, why not! All they can do is say no and think less of you but you can worry about that later...keep your mind on the cash baby! If you have no friends there are strangers that will lend you money (see the video below), of course the terms may not be the greatest and you do have to have good credit.
  6. Babysit: Babysitters can make like$10.00 an hour (depending on your area and how many kids) If I were you I'd pile them in, of course you don't want Children's Protective Services on your case so keep it to 5 at a time (if you can handle it).
  7. Rent out your apartment and go stay with a friend: I've actually done this one so I know it can be done, but hey I live in Manhattan where you can rent out just about anything for the right price.
  8. If it's snowing, put an advertise mention Craigslist to shovel snow: This is pretty explanatory but I'll explain anyway. Check out other snow shovelers (sp?) and see what they are charging and then undercut them a little, a little competition never hurt anyone and hey you're desperate right!
  9. Pawn something: You know that ring your great aunt left you that you never wear...pawn it, you can get it back later if you want.
  10. Rent out your couch (or if you have a spare room): I've done this too (but once again I'm in Manhattan). People who don't have money for a hotel still need a place to sleep and shower, believe me they will take your couch over the car seat or a park bench. Be careful not to rent out to criminals, like I said I've done it and it worked out for me but I am pretty lucky, hopefully it will work out for you too.
  11. Rent out your garage: Take your crap out and rent out your garage to someone else so that they can put their crap in. Storage is expensive if you can undercut the going rate you will have customers.
  12. Mow someone's lawn: Give the local tween a run for his money, its a dog eat dog world you know!
  13. Clean someone's gutters: Make sure you know what you are doing and aren't afraid of heights.
  14. Sign up as an extra for a movie: In New York or L.A. You can do this and get paid that day, every where else you're kind of out of luck on this one.
  15. Pet Sit and Dog Walker: The nice thing about this is that you can do other things while you're doing it,like babysitting so that you make twice the money for the same time,I'm always thinking!
  16. Depending on where you are Craigslist often has 1 day jobs like cleaning someone's apartment that day...check Craigslist under Domestic and Etc.
  17. Pose as a nude model: They can make$30 to $100 dollars an hour, of course I would never do this but you might.
  18. Promote Clubs: In New York you can promote clubs and and make cash from $400 to $1000 a week. Usually this entails standing on the curb handing out fliers but hey there are worse things out there...like nude modeling!
  19. I will wait for you: I heard of this woman who advertised that she will wait for the Cable guy, the electrician, or a plumber for you for a certain rate (if you have to work and can't do it yourself). I thought it sounded like a good idea.
  20. Taxi anyone? If you have a car offer rides for a price, give the local taxi service a run for their money.
  21. Beg: Sit in front of Starbucks with a cup(look depressed) and get a sign saying that you need money for food. Hey it works, I saw a guy sit in a busy downtown Manhattan Starbucks and I think he took in at least 200 bucks while I watched him over 2½ hours. They also fed him lunch. I considered it for a moment but thought ..”I'm too fat, no one would believe that I was starving”(so I didn't do it :)

OK, that's all I can think of for now, that's legal at least :), so good luck in making fast cash and if you know of any other ideas please comment below. Great Hub and like always a blessing to read, quick cash is easy to make if you look at the many things we collect... Garage Sales are a great way to get rid of things and to pocket a little extra cash.

You know Brie I'm going to go easy on you, because I appreciate that you are a gifted and most likely an educated modern woman. But you have one glaringly obvious issue, that is not really your fault probably...deep down you are either an idiot, or you just do not think about what you are going to say before you write (I am not attacking you, so sit down and listen to my criticism please. I am equally concerned about helping you be a better writer...but I do not mince words - besides you are a big girl.)

" 17. Pose as a nude model: They can make $30 to $100 dollars an hour, of course I would never do this but you might."

Now your article as a whole has good ideas, and to clarify I assume you are refering to art modeling and working as a life drawing model at art classrooms and colleges etc. I did this for five years nights and weekends while in college, working odd hours, and paying child support for my daughter. It was good honest work and made possible my school schedule that would not have been otherwise...and the money was usually double the minimum wage I could have earned at any other part time job.

You should never say I think this is a good way to earn money, then retract and say 'but I would never do it but you might'. Do you hear the rude, hypocritical tone, and judgemental way that comes off ? Nobody give a hoot, if you would choose to pose nude to put food on the table. You are trying to enrich someones life and give sound work advice...so do your job or shut your mouth.

I am sure that comment came out of some minor repressed sense that people might think you had done something unethical by suggesting nude modeling as work. If you think that way about the job, then why would you publically suggest it as a way to earn a living to strangers you are publically being influencial over.

What are you some kind of moral vampire?

Clean your mind up,work is good for the soul. That was what you are trying to get across right?

Either be a Chrisitan or be a Used Car Saleswoman, but please as an artist and writer pick a side. Hypocrites make very bad writers, unless you plan to write fiction.

Love is the Law, but you are the idiot. I wrote that because I don't have the body to pose nude! Talk about judgmental!

blake4d profile image

blake4d 2 years ago

Either way it is bad form and writing formula...see how you automatically go on the defensive. I am much more overweight and physically uglier than you by many pounds and scars on my body - I apologize if Idiot touched a nerve. But that is exactly how your words fell upon my ears and other readers as well. I shall leave you alone, in the future. I thought about what I wrote carefully to be constructive criticism. Obviously you are too good for that, so forgive me for thinking you had some talent worth sharing opinions and the HUBPAGES eithic of helping one another out. Your Pagan fan in Arizona, too bad you lost a great opportunity for friendship with a true allies despite our religious differences. Your loss, my loss too. That is what is destroying the world. People like us are just beasts, see you on the other side. Blake4d

Brie Hoffman profile image

Brie Hoffman Hub Author 2 years ago

Yes, I went on the defensive because you automatically assumed that I was being moralistic when I wasn't, which is to commit the very sin you had the chutzpa to accused me of.

blake4d profile image

blake4d 2 years ago

Allright, I apologize as I did try to use words that would mean something to you based on reading about half of your hubs today. Do understand it is something you believe in, so I can see how it may affect you deeply. That really was not my intention...

Keep in mind, I do not believe in that at all, so I hope you can see how that does not bother me if the same was said to me. At least not in a formally value heart felt emtional way, and chutzpa - yes I had a strong incredible role model in my mother, she was the same way. But our kind do a lot of good in the world, despite an uncooth brute way with our words. I thank you for meeting me half way. You seem good natured as well...I hope the vision of the world you seem to believe in is even better than you hope for. For myself as well.

In your corner on the hub should you ever need a friend who can take the real heat of controversy, and prejudice. I know you probably make some waves too. Really, anytime you need some backup. I got your back...for being a little extra real today and meeting mind to mind.

We both are still kinda idiots...Keep on hubbing.

20.Taxi anyone? If you have a car offer rides for a price, give the local taxi service a run for their money.

wow blake, read your comments...your definately feeling a little defensive about that nude art modeling. Brie didnt say anything other than she wouldnt do it. I wouldnt do it either, because im self concious, and cant sit still, but just reading "i wouldnt do it, but you might" doesnt really sound the way you read it. Maybe you are a little Antagonistic, ever think of that? And then in your little apologie, you still call brie an idiot. Including yourself as one as well dosnt matter...you still called her an idiot. I happen to like brie's writting, so keep your agression to your own hubs. Payday loans are almost certainly a scam, very cleverly contrived.

The shops are set up in the areas where they are most needed like near ports where they know that people are paid monthly by the Navy or similar so will be needing cash nearing the end, they then charge something like 20% average and one of the biggest in England even quotes the APR as something crazy like 1600%+ interest!!! (Someone else will have to run the numbers because I am useless at them lol)

They are nothing but legalised loansharks in my honest opinion, they set themselves up to be all friendly and caring and then take an arm and a leg over the next 10 years as you struggle to get yourself out of their clutches.

Remember people, if you borrow £200 on your £1000 cheque that means the following month you only have £800, meaning you will have to borrow the month later. And the month after that, and after that...

The cycle never ends.

Many towns now have credit unions where the people pay money into a bank and it can be loaned out to people to help them, they are far better than these sharks and vampires.

~~

By the way, begging is never good lol

I found myself without money while traveling and ended up in Tulieres Parc in Paris near the Louvre feeding the birds...in Winter.

It was cold but it brought in 10x as much as peoplesitting in gutters looking miserable and I have written a hub about it lol

Well, some of my ideas I wouldn't do myself but you never know when you get desperate...well you might do them.

Brie Hoffman, Good hub. I enjoyed it. I can add two more to the list. One is Amazon's Mechanical Turk. Their payout minimum is low; I think it's $10. So it's possible to do that within the day. You just need a computer and Internet connection. Another one is day labor. All cities and medium-sized towns have day labor agencies. Go work in the local factory or office and get paid at the end of the day. Bonus if you have a car. Give other workers rides to the jobsite and you can make $3 or $4 a passenger. FYI: there's a distinction between day labor agencies and temporary agencies. Day labor pays at the end of the day and temporary agencies pay the following week. Kind Regards

Brie Hoffman Hub Author 2 years ago

Kind Regards 2 years ago

Oh, and I got an email from Cloud Crowd today. They have an app on Facebook or you can go to their website. He doesn't even have a payout threshold. He'll pay you what he owes you within a day or two. Similar to the work found on Mechanical Turk.

And there's always freelance writing, but you might have to wait a few days. I work at Demand Studios and get paid twice a week, which is good enough for me. They have a dozen or so online jobs, not just writing. It took me over a year to track down how to make a living at home online that was legit, so I don't mind sharing the wealth of my efforts. Take care, everyone!

Brie Hoffman profile image

Brie Hoffman Hub Author 2 years ago

What kind of work is it?

Kind Regards profile image

Kind Regards 2 years ago

Amazon's Mechanical Turk and Cloud Crowd are just random little tasks. You'd have to go to their sites and just check it out; it's easier than explaining it. I've done a lot with MTurk so I know it inside out, but these days I just do transcription and academic surveys for them because they pay the most.

Demand Studios has many jobs: writers, editors, filmmakers, QA, dupe checking, categorizing, etc. You have to take a test with DS and then get accepted which can take a couple of months. But it's a full-time income and I've never known anywhere that pays every Tuesday and Friday.

For goodness sakes those who comments about payday loans or posing nude it is up to each individual to deceide for themself which way works for them. Good job Brie! I will admit it in years pass I have had to use payday loans for quick cash. Did I like it? While I agree with most of your ideas (and I get that most of your offhand comments are tongue-in-cheek), I have to question the nude modeling idea. From my own experience (yes, I did it when I was much younger and fit), it wasn't something that I could just decide to do that day, and then get paid for it. It had to be set up with the photographer ahead of time for the shoot. So for that reason only, I think that the nude modeling gig wouldn't be something you could do on the fly and get paid for immediately. Of course, I didn't do it in NYC though... perhaps there are places you could do it there with no planning...?! Fun hub!

Great hub AND I'm glad that you included sitting outside of Starbucks asking for money, altho Starbucks has a pretty strict rule against it, but I don't know how much they enforce that across the country. They seem to in So Cal. BUT anyone who panhandles HAS A JOB. I think it is a legitimate job and having experienced panhandling as part of a leadership training program, IT IS HARD WORK. You deserve every penny or 100 dollar bill you get! And I know some folks also believe that you deserve every bit of money you do not get!! AND if you are going to work at this line of work, DO NOT LOOK DEPRESSED. People don't necessarily give money to folks who look depressed. Look LEGITIMATE. When you ask someone for money, SEE THEM IN YOUR HEAD AHEAD OF TIME, GIVING you money. When you see them in your head telling you to get lost and get a job, that is exactly what happens. When you see them giving you money, they do and in abundance. IT IS SALESPERSONSHIP! Be a good salesperson and people buy your product or service. Your service as a panhandler is supporting folks to give and be generous, to open up their hearts, to realize that you can't take it with you, that there is benefit in giving away part of what you have or all of what you have for that matter. As a panhandler, you support folks coming to the awareness that it is FREEING to let go of a few bucks or perhaps a lot of bucks. It is freeing in that you give up your judgments of what the person is going to use the money for. It is none of your business, the same way what anyone else uses their legitimately-earned dollars for is none of your business. So anywho, my comments for now. Again, great hub, even humorous. As I was getting ready to submit my comment, I noticed the last comment regarding posing as a nude model. I couldn't help but think of another interesting job, which I will not describe here, but in the porn industry, there is a person called the "fluffer." I have no idea how much it pays! Well, enuf!!

Nice tips Brie... as far as payday loans are concerned, I don't necessarily think that all of them are scams, but I do think that they should be used sparingly (if at all) because the interest charged is higher than traditional loans. They can come in handy if used responsibly tho.

jasoncox83 profile image

Well to be quite honest only about half of your suggestions are even legit enough to make worth someone's time. The other half are horrid ideas like panhandling you are preying on people. That money could have went to someone who actually needs it, that has no home or food! Yes being a Taxi without the proper licence is illegal across all states. Begging is also illegal in many cities, which can be an arrestable offense like here within many cities in Ohio. Oh and before I forget renting out your apartment is a good way to lose your home....Check your contract I am sure as most landlords include a no subleasing clause in the fine print.

Overall horrid tips for about half, the other half are actual methods that could be used. I am not trying to be mean only bluntly honest.

You should remove the part about the taxi, and apartment before someone flags this for promoting illegal activities and or harmful suggestions which could lead to them losing their home.

Brie Hoffman profile image

Brie Hoffman Hub Author 22 months ago

Jason: I rented out my home (I owned it) and many people can get roommates. If you are desperate for money I don't think that begging is illegal (although it's not something I would do). If it is illegal it sure isn't enforced because I see a lot of it here in New York City. I think if you are desperate, you might do anything. Apparently, you are blessed not to be in that situation. Regarding the taxi situation...do you realize that in certain states it's illegal to even have a garage sale...it's called a POLICE STATE! I don't know about the so called laws but I think it's ridiculous and it's the primary reason why we have no jobs in this country. All of the licenses and fees and hoops and one has to go through just to make a living is ridiculous. I will leave your comments up and anyone can read them but I am not going to take some of these suggestions down because the government has no right to enforce some of these laws, it's tyrannical.

Regarding renting out your apartment, I suppose that is illegal but people do it all the time...just take a look at Craigslist for subleases. It's another one of those unenforceable laws. Pretty soon "THEY" will make it illegal to breath!

I thought this Hub was often funny and true. People do many of these things every day. If you ask the individuals who have done some things on the list, they will probably tell you that they never thought that they would be doing "it" (whatever it is).

People should use discretion when making quick cash. Quick cash usually involves doing a desparate act -- which can turn out bad, yet surprisingly may have turn out good. Anyway, there are some worthwhile suggestions here.

Hello Brie Hoffman, You are great. I loved reading this "Hub." (whatever that means.) I just lost my @ss at the casino. None of your ideas will really work for me. I was thinking of calling the police and having them take me to the hospital to talk to someone about some kind of money they can give me monthly for my depression. I don't take any drugs. I don't have money, insurance or a doctor. I couldn't even pay for a perscription*... What can I do?! Please help me. The Hospital will try to charge me or send me a bill also!!! I don't really NEED drugs, I need money!; But I feel the way I am and how I act I could get some kind of payment or help! I am really screwed and need help! If the wrong timer goes off in my head I will end up trying to rob a store. If I got caught, I would have no choice but to run to the nearest bridge and jump head first. My family is poor, it's hard to get a gallon of milk around here. None of them have any time for anything but work and sleep. How can someone with nothing, get help or something? I am basically a man with few skills that was locked up in prison for 10 years and just set free, with nothing and no one. (I wasn't actually locked up or committed any crimes for that matter.)

I feel you are smarter just by this one Hub I have read from you then any people on YAHOO Q&A.

If you can give me any ideas or urge me to seek help. If Brie Hoffman is your real name I will send you money (when I get it), I promise.

I mean... No car, no job, virtually no place to stay, no friends or family that have any time to help me. No gosh darn stores in my walking distance that can hire me. What does one do?! I always hear people say... "I don't have a car, can't get a job".. "Get a job, then buy a car". HOW IS this possible!.. Bus? Rides from friends.. none of these options are within my reach.

I'm sure by now you're thinking... "Just end your life dude, it's not worth it. leave me alone. you annoying punk"

Sorry to make you read this. I am just one person out of many millions that have many millions of problems.

Im gonna post this anyway because I really need an idea, maybe something I'm missing.

If you DO reply I will probly be in the hospital already before I can read it! Those people will take my situation way to serious and it might affect my family. They cannot afford to take even a day off of work!

I need money so bad to give my parents and family a vacation. I would love to add 15 years on to their life. They're being drained of all energy and not eating properly because they have no time.

Maybe I should send this letter to Ellen Degeneres. Haha

Even she would tell me to fuck off and go jump!

I'm gonna end all this nonsense by saying. Sometimes I don't know why we would rather live then die.

Thanks for reading!

I agree with many of your great ideas like shoveling, but I respectfully disagree with Payday loans. The interest rates are so high and put people in more debt. Just saying...

I agree but I put it in there because it is money you can get in one day or less and who knows what circumstances a person is in whereby a high interest rate is the lessor of two evils.
