Fat Calories

Why thin people get to eat more and stay thin...

I have often wondered why it is that people who are thin can eat so much and not gain weight while people who are overweight deny themselves and yet are still overweight.

I have found the answer. This may not be rocket science to anyone else but it sure was an eye opener to me.

We all use a certain amount of calories every day, for argument sake lets say we use 2000 calories a day. People who are not overweight need the entire 2000 calories in order to maintain their weight. If you are overweight then you have additional calories on your person from the Haagen Dazs last night, the pizza party last month or the birthday cake last year, so you do not need 2000 calories a day. If you are overweight and you eat 2000 calories a day (assuming that is how many calories you use up in a day) you will simply maintain your weight, you will not lose or gain weight. If you wish to lose weight you must eat less than 2000 calories a day so that your body will use up the calories you've already eaten. That is why it may appear that fat people eat less than normal people because they may eat less but they still have the extra calories from previous overeating episodes to account for. The trick to eating less is to eat more whole foods. Whole foods keep you from getting hungry. Have you ever noticed after eating some kind of junk food that you just want to keep eating and eating and eating? That's the way they work, whereas when you eat whole foods like whole fruits, whole vegetable, whole grains, they fill you up so that you don't get as hungry as fast. Also, exercising helps to keep the hungries at bay and they contribute to calories burned. I find it amazing how much just walking can burn up hundreds of calories.

In order to effect weight loss you have to eat less calories than you take in until your body has used up the previous calories stored as fat. You don't have to join weight watchers, or Jenny Craig or Over Eaters Anonymous, you don't have to spend a ton of money or go to meetings you just have to eat less calories than you use each day. Once you have done this you will be able to eat the entire 2000 calories that you use every day just like a thin person because you will have no extra stored calories on your body. That is a day to look forward to! Because, if you've been eating ..say 1200 to 1500 calories a day 2000 calories seems like a feast. Now if I can just get to that point!

Good theory there. Weight and food and calories, ahh if only life was easy. I have been eating salads, cheese, and did i mention salad, for the last few weeks. Its easy to do, as once you have started, your taste buds suddenly reject your old foods. I had a packet meal 2 days ago and didn't even finish it. it tasted so gross, whereas before, it would have been yummy.

Getting to the point of being skinny and being able to eat lots does make a bit of sense. It's getting to that point that is most annoying.

Loriamoore: This is revolutionary to me which is why I thought I would share it...after knowing this it makes complete sense but I never put 2 and 2 together.

Just4meonline: Yeah, getting to that point would be heaven, I haven't given up today! One day at a time.

once again you have used common sense to educate me. I weigh the same as I did in High school as my 30th year reunion approaches. I work very hard at staying in shape. I can wake up weighing 168 and by the time I get done running I'll be down to 162. After dinner and something to drink back up to 168. I thought it unusual that I could fluxuate up and down 6 pounds a day. It turns out it's just simple math. And a 16 ounce porterhouse plus a 32 ounce icee. It's not just the weight of the intake, it's the calorie count. Genious! Teach me more!

Great Hub. Thank you.

I blame also chemicals present in food. MSG is like insulin medication, stimulating appetite.
