How to Get and Keep Beautiful Skin

By

There are many products and advice out there for beautiful skin, so much so that it can be overwhelming. I have sifted through the hype and have found what works for me; I hope that my experience will help you as well.

They say that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. When it comes to your skin that is very good advice. Do you want to have beautiful skin for a lifetime? The very first things you should do is to prevent bad skin. Here are 6 things you can do while you are young that will prevent bad skin and encourage beautiful skin for the rest of your life:

Preventative Measures for Beautiful Skin:

  1. Stay Out of the Sun

  2. Don't Smoke

  3. Exercise

  4. Eat non-processed healthy whole foods

  5. Stay away from Tanning Booths

  6. Don't drink too much alcohol

Sunbathing is the fastest way to ruin your skin for the rest of your life. Have you ever noticed the quality of skin that has been in the sun for years? It looks like shoe leather, moreover, there is nothing that can fix years of sun damage to the skin. Excessive sunbathing can cause age spots, freckles, wrinkling and accelerated aging as well as lead to skin cancer later on in life. The best thing you can do for your skin is to stay out of the sun in the first place. If you have to be out in the sun wear a hat and use sunscreen.

Do you want to have beautiful skin, don 't smoke! Smoking dries out the skin and causes wrinkles at an early age. Also, if you are fair it will be even worse, beautiful skin and smoking do not go well together. Not only does smoking cause premature aging but it also affects your voice and can give you cancer. Put down the cigarettes if you want beautiful skin for life!

Exercising helps to get blood to the skin. It eradicates toxins through sweating and give the skin a fresh healthy glow. Try to exercise to the point of breaking a sweat everyday.

They say “You are what you Eat” and this is especially true when it comes to your skin. Whole foods that are either grown, milked or butchered are the best things for your skin. If it comes in a box or in plastic and can sit on a shelf for years don't eat it, it's a simple as that!

Tanning Booths are just as bad for you as cigarettes and sunbathing. Some studies have suggested that teens who regularly use tanning beds are eight time more likely to get skin cancer. Also, some people think that tanning booths are safer than sunbathing, however, studies have shown that long term effects of tanning salons are actually worse than sunbathing. UVA rays from tanning salons are actually 2 to 3 times more powerful than from the sun, stay away from them!

Alcohol also dries the skin. You may not notice it when you are young but over the years excessive drinking can have a markedly detrimental effect on your skin, much the same as smoking cigarettes. So if you must drink, drink in moderation if at all if you want to have beautiful skin.

Now that we have established preventative measures to keep your skin beautiful what are some products that can help heal your skin if it is already damaged?

I have found 3 products that have worked for me and can help any age group.

Healing Damaged Skin:

Pro-Active

Chemical Peel

Vitamin E Oil

Pro-Active products are simply the best products I've ever found to combat acne. I wish that it had been around when I was a teenager. If you have problems with acne I would highly recommend using their products on a regular basis. If Pro-Active doesn't help then I would suggest going to a dermatologist.

The next item is Salicylic Acid for a home-made chemical peel (the product is available on this website). This product helps to eradicate the skin of black-heads, age spots, oily skin and clogged pores. It is inexpensive and can be done at home. It is a great product but must be used according to the directions as it is a powerful acid, but it is inexpensive and easy to use. I highly recommend it.

Finally, Vitamin E Oil is a great moisturizer and I've found that it makes my skin look fabulous over-night (there aren't very many products that one can see a marked difference over-night!). I put vitamin E oil on my face at night before going to sleep and in the morning I look fabulous. I use this maybe 2 or 3 times a week.

I've used all the advice here and all the products and I must say that my skin looks great. I am 50 years old and I hardly have any wrinkles and have been told I look much younger. So, if you are trying to figure out what works and what doesn't I hope this article helps you to have beautiful skin as well.

Really useful and succinct article on skin care- its good that you reinforce the messages about avoiding the worst enemies of skin. Can't believe you are fifty! You do look considerably younger in your profile pic .perhaps that's the best evidence for following your advice! Voted up!

The pic was taken when I was 48 so I guess I'm fudging a little :) But the advice is all good, glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting.

I've been wondering about the role of oxygen lately. Our bodies are made up of 65-75% water (H2O) and oxygen is 90% of water's weight. So it would make sense that one result of not getting enough oxygen in our bodies might be shriveled body cells, especially in the dermis. What do you think?

Interesting concept..have you googled the idea, sounds like you might have the makings of an interesting article.

I did do a search, but for long. I'll note the topic and check it out when I have time. Thanks for the suggestion.
