I just finished reading a review of Kitty Kelly's new book “Oprah” about Oprah Winfrey.
The book reveals scandals, sexcapades and secrets about Oprah's life. One woman said that working for Oprah's company Harpo was like working for a cult. None of it surprised me, to be brutally honest I never really liked Oprah. Oprah Winfrey is very successful, however, she has not been shy about her true nature. Even though Oprah Winfrey professes a spirituality she has denied Christ and has consistently taken the secular side of many a topic.
Are we so desperate for heroes that we will latch on to anyone who is successful? Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods, fill in the blank are just the latest in a long line of failed heroes. We should not bestow the mantel of hero on people who are simply successful or talented. A person should be admired because of their character and self sacrifice not because they can hit a little white ball into a little green hole or because they are good at interviewing people on TV.
Oprah Winfrey is a proponent of gay rights, a denier of Christ and last year met with other elites like Bill Gates, Ted Turner, George Soros, Michael Bloomberg, David Rockefeller and Warren Buffet in what was termed as the Billionaire Club in a secret meeting in order to figure out a way to depopulate the earth. This also does not surprise me as one of the primary goals of the New World Order is to reduce the population of the earth to 500 million according to the Georgia Guidestones.
I have written many articles about the New World Order and what you can do to prepare, but one of the things that you can do, something that anyone can do this very minute is to quit conforming to this world, that means quit making idols out of stupid athletes and T.V. Guru's, quit getting guidance from actors and actresses, quit letting the world and everything that is in it brainwash you, mold you and/or teach you what is right from wrong. You can do this right now, today even! It would be spectacular and maybe even revolutionary...hey it worked for Jesus Christ, my hero!

I wonder just how many successful people sold their souls to the devil...maybe they started out with just the intent to be successful...and then things turned very dark....and once you have sold your soul...can you get it back? I think so, but it takes a willingness to give up the bright glitter and the dark evil....good article as always, Brie.
You are brilliant in your assesment of the current state of affairs. It is indeed a shame that people can be judged to be heroes based on ability with very little consideration of their morality. I stand with you Brie. Bravo!
I have always viewed celebrities like the poular kids in high school. I just enjoy the parts they play in movies, and even though i try to not listen to all of the tabloid stuff, sometimes you just cant rent a movie with certain celebrities. you try to watch, but the whole time your thinking "I cant believe he/she did or said that"
I liked oprah when i saw the color purple.
And i felt bad for her when her weight was on the cover of every magazine
But, watching her show, she just gives me bad vibes, like i wouldnt like to meet her in person.
I cant say i have a star that i idolize, or that i want to be like, because your own potential only goes so far, and after that, you should just be proud that you reached your fullest. There are also very good celebrities that try and keep their personal lives at bay, and although they love what they do, see everything being out in the open, or lied about an occupational hazard. Kind of like being a taxi driver durring rush hour! I know the main point of your hub, and although we are not at a place of agreement spiritually, I agree people can get way to obsessed with these public figures. I mean really, people go as far as getting plastic surgery in the hopes of becomming angelina jolie's twin. Its like, seriously? The 100 sexiest stars issue of entertainment weekly should ave the sbtitle "just when you thought you were satisfied with the way you look..." People need to remember that those stars were born, they go to the bathroom, get the sniffles, and die just like the rest of us. Its a shame they are idolized rather than just appreciated for their talent.
Is it remotely possible we have been conditioned to think of ourselves as the lowest common denominator? So we search for "heroes" to take us to a higher level. We aspire to be anything but who we are. This is a contagion, a disease, that is self-perpetuating such as Tony Hayward's recent "small people" quote. It's a conditioning that paves the way for the ultimate false hero -- the antichrist. It's becoming very hard now to maintain a positive self-image. So many of us are giving in.
BTW, who's your earthly hero? Certainly there's someone on this planet you admire.
(Hate Oprah's hair.)
I do. Stephen Curtis Chapman. He and his wife adopted several children after having several of their own. His 5 year old adopted daughter was killed when his 17 year old son hit her with his car while pulling into the driveway. It was the day of his graduation party. After this he added a verse to the song "Yours" "I've walked the valley of deaths shadow, so deep and dark that I could barely breathe. I've had to let go of more than I could bare and I've questioned everything that I believe. Still even here in this great darkness, a glory and a hope come shining through and I can say in life or death God we belong to you." Every time I hear or think those words I tear up and rejoice in the faith of this man and the faithfulness of God.
Do I have any heroes? It took me a long time to think about this one. The answer is, no. Everybody I know has sold out in some fashion. They've compromised their beliefs and sense of integrity. Those I read about but have never met are probably the same. Like Oprah, who knows what lurks in the shadows?
You! Yes, you are to be admired! And those like you. You are fighting for your beliefs. You refuse to compromise. These are rare qualities. That's something to be emulated.
Anne Frank, yes. Cora ten Boom, yes. The others I'm not familiar with. There are many silent heroes among us. They help those in desperate need without expecting rewards. They go about their daily tasks knowing this is what's right. Those who expect compensation are as phony as our president.
All of us carry cruel burdens. Some of us rise above it. Such as yourself.
Brie I had just written a hub along similar lines a couple of weeks back and I gotta say that as frustrated as you are it all has to happen this way. I wish it were not so but I am afraid that this is the path the mindless minions have chosen to follow.
America and much of the world has turned their back on God and Christ and being God and Christ they granted our wishes. So they have left us on our own and now we are seeing the results !
I believe in god and I was saved by Christ when I was a little girl I also have alot of faith god has done alot for me and my family I hate it's a string word I know but we wrote oprah to try and get her support for heart defects the number one birth defect and children die every day my child was born with half a heart it's called hypoplastic left heart syndrome he's doing great right now living with half a heart only because if god so oprah can kiss my big white but we all know were she's going to end up and about celebrities there celebrities they make big bucks and make movies so what want a hero there's a guy who's riding a bike around the country to hel raise money for heart defects he's one if my Heros but oter than that jesus is number one he gave his life for us so we could go to heaven some day what else is thear?

Brie, you are right about people using anyone with money or fame as heroes. Just because a person has made money does not make them a person worthy to be a role model. I saw a video on YouTube a while back where Oprah was telling why she did not believe that God was what Christians taught about Him. She said that when she read that God was a "Jealous God" that was all she needed to read to convince her that she was not going to follow this God. Love you sister.
