Live-in Jobs that keep your tax liability at a minimum!
76
As the Banksters tighten their grip on our economy it's going to become harder and harder to make a living. Not only will it become more difficult but taxes have gone up and they will go up even more in the very near future.
What is a person/family to do?
One thing you can do is to get out of the system as much as possible. Find or create jobs that include payment in the form of housing, food, services or anything other than traceable income. Well, you might be asking yourself what kind of jobs are those. Here are some professions to consider and almost all of them include room, board, utilities, as well as a car and a weekly allowance. Some may or may not be under the table or off the books but all of them provide for your needs so that you don't have to "earn" money in order to have a roof over your head or food in your mouth:
Caretaker: Caretakers take care of homes and compensation usually includes room and board and sometimes even a car. One perk of this position is the home that you are taking care of usually is quite nice.
Nanny: Nannies
take care of children and compensation almost always includes room,
board, a car and in many instances world travel...all on someone else's
dime! I had a close relative who did this for years and because she had
no bills she was able to save up a considerable amount of money for her
retirement.
Home Health Aide:
A home health aide may take care of an elderly person or they might
take care of someone disabled. The opportunities for positions like
these are increasing exponentially due to the aging baby boomers.
Landscaper: This might be a more difficult position to find as a live-in but if you combine it with maintaining other areas of a home you might be able to find something that will include room, board and a small salary.
Superintendent of
an apartment complex: This almost always includes an apartment as
well as a salary. If you want to live in a large city like New York this might be the job for you!
Maid: In New York
and in other large cities there are many positions that include an
apartment as well as a salary. A good maid can make quite a chunk of
change on top of room and board. Most people who are looking for maids
in this category want people who are adept at high end entertaining and
couture cleaning, so make sure the fork goes on the left and the silver
is polished, get the skills and get out there!
If you have a family then you have to think a little differently: One thing you can do is to think of a way to make your home create money for you. One thing you can do is provide day-care, but instead of charging a flat rate include bartering in the service. In other words, keep the income as low as possible by allowing your “customers” to give you groceries, services or any other item you need that isn't cash.
Another possibility is using your home to make money. Rent out a room, a garage or even a couch. I did this for over 10 years in Portland, Oregon and it enabled me to live in a huge beautiful old home that I would not have been able to afford under normal circumstances. Grow food and sell it to your neighborhood restaurant, think outside the box.
One of the best places to search for jobs like these are in Craigslist under the domestic or etc section. When I had a room for rent I would also advertise in Craigslist. You have to be careful, and make sure you check them out but Craigslist has a large audience and it is free.
Other professions that could receive
services or products in lieu of cash are mechanics, seamstresses,
computer help, music lessons and personal chefs. These are but a few
areas that would work. When pondering jobs that pay you in services or
products one
must be creative. Think of services that are needed every day and
try to think of creative ways to deliver those services while getting
your own needs met. You'd be surprised at how many people are receiving
services instead of cash for services provided and doing quite nicely.
Whatever avenue you choose good luck and happy hunting!

Outstanding! You know I am a living testimony to this. It's been a little over two years since I was laid off from a great paying sales job. I now make about $45,000.00 less a year, but lack nothing, I eat better, and have more free time.
I am growing food and selling for markets, built a farm stand, have a care taking gig that pay's for my rent,I mow lawns and do odd jobs sometimes for bartering, and will be starting my off the grid adventure this summer. I'm loving it!
Great hub as usual, I rate this way up, and totally awesome!
Great ideas for people who can't find regular jobs. Care takers are really in these days, a lot of people can no longer take care of themselvs.
Great Information!!! I'm all about the barter system. To hell with currency and interest and taxes.
Hello Brie, I liked your articles on off-grid living. I may have the solution to some people living off-grid without bankrupting them. I lease land for living spaces, gardening and small animals for people that would like to try homestead living without the cost of buying land. I do have good water supply, all weather road. Do have electric lines running across property if needed. Located south central Illinois. Lease is $1000.00 a year. Feel free to post this even with contact information. Please have anyone sending e-mails to put land lease in the subject line. e-mail me at sdc@wabash.net Thank You Steve
