January 1st 2011 marked the date when the Baby-boomers turned 65 and started drawing on social security. 7000 baby boomers are drawing on social security each and every day. The major news media have started pounding the proverbially drum regarding the demise of social security benefits. Is this news to you? We have been hearing how Social Security will be depleted for years. Now, the day has come when we are in the red, when there will be more money paid out of social security than paid in. This should come as no surprise to anyone. We have a huge elderly population (mostly due to the abortion holocaust) and we have no jobs. As far as I know 1 plus 1 still equals 2.
What is it they say we need to do to remedy the situation? The elite always provide only two solutions; more taxation or decreased benefits. In other words more theft!
This is unacceptable. I don't know about you but I've paid into Social Security my entire life, not because I wanted to but because I was forced to. When someone forces you to pay for something and you receive no benefit ..that my dear is called stealing. Should we just sit down for another pilfering, another raping of the American People. This is our money they are stealing!
So, what solution could we come up with instead of the tired old, worn out solution of people who probably have Harvard degrees and thousands of dollars in research money? First of all this is our money, real money that the government took from us and gave to others, money that resulted from our labor and toil unlike the fake printed pieces of paper the Fed prints up day after day. We should demand it back. We should demand that they stop funding both illegal wars and the unprofitable drug war and use that money to fund Social Security!
According to
cost of war.com we have spent almost 1 Trillion dollars since 2001 for
wars alone. This doesn't even account for all the money we've spent
in the drug wars. If they used this money there would be more than
enough money to fund social security and a few other needed services.
In the meantime, every single politician that allowed for these
illegal wars should be voted out of office, all salaries halved in
Congress and no more outrageous health care benefits. The other thing we need to do is to encourage jobs.
I could write another hub on that subject. But to be succinct I will
just mention that the best way to encourage jobs is to get the
government out of the way. Right now, in order to start a new business
you have to go through so many bureaucratic hoops that it's ridiculous.
It's easier to start a business in Hong Kong than in America. The best
way to encourage employment is for the government to get out of the
way, that's how we became prosperous in the first place and that's how
we can regain our prosperity.
I am not optimistic, however.
Unfortunately, since we have criminals who run our government, they will do what benefits them and we will continue to decline. Nevertheless, I hope that the next time you see some government hack telling you what must be done to remedy a crisis that THEY created that you will think twice or maybe more. Just because someone with a Harvard degree tells you something doesn't mean it's true or he's right, just because they come up with a solution doesn't mean it's the best or only solution, we must start thinking for ourselves. In fact, I am hoping it will become a habit.

From the shores of Belize to the decay of America's 'hoods you've come full circle. How I envy your global escapades. But fear not, as Obama* and his minions have your interests at heart. Has he not provided you with free health care? As for social security, that is covered as well. This term or next Obambam will grant amnesty to millions of illegals thus legalizing their entry into entitlement programs and replenishing the pilfered SS coffers. A few years later it will be another 12 million and so forth. So you can see that everything is well thought out. Even Arizona's SB 1070 is a ruse to pave the way to the North American Union. You can trust in Big Government or trust in God. Either will take care of you (but eternal life might be markedly different). All is well in the Land of Nod.

We have to vote them out, almost all.
I keep wondering if there will be anything for me or will Social Security be dead by then?
Brie your outrage is justified. What I find more disturbing is the true numbers. At this time the social security fund, which was fully funded in the early eighties is now 14 trillion dollars unfunded. It increases it's negative balance by one million every minute. WEEEEE! I am surprised they have ended it yet. http://www.usdebtclock.org/
Never count on getting anything from the government. Consider all your taxes and FICA payed, as a cost of doing business in this country. As bad as it seems, it is still much better than most anywhere else on this planet. I have never expected to get anything back in my old age. I planned accordingly.
IF, (and it's a big IF) I do get benefits, I will count it as a bonus. It will be my party money, so to speak. I could retire today, if I wanted to. I plan on working until my full benefit age of 65. Call me crazy, but I like working. Every day that I work, buys me more future security. My eternal life is already taken care of.
Dear 50 year old:
I wouldn't be quite so cocky about your "future benefits." I get a bad feeling they won't be there at age 65. Good thing you planned accordingly.
Brie,
No, not everyone is my position. I understand that. My message was intended mostly for the younger people in your audience. Plan now, for your future. Rely on no one but yourself.
foreignpress,
You're right, my post sounded a little "cocky" after re-reading it. That wasn't my intention at all. I was trying to stress that nothing is guaranteed. If people plan, they can retire securely. It requires sacrifice, early, and consistently. It's just a different kind of investment. An investment in yourself.
50 year old:
Sorry. I'm feeling a bit out of sorts with this country's ongoing social experiments. You can bet nobody in Congress or the White House is worried about retirement. Unfortunately, all the planning and foresight -- and years of playing the savings game -- could be for nothing and one could still end up broke. Cash in the mattress is still the best option.
I wouldn't put it in the mattress foreignpress! I think we are in for a bad time, I think things will crumble in a matter of weeks . . .
_________________________________________________
YIKES! Do I sense a hub coming!? Crumbling in a matter of weeks sounds seriously ominous! Yes, indeed! I would like to read your rationale on this one!
Yes, the EEU is in dire shape. But it isn't likely to fold. In fact, Estonia is slated to join the EEU shortly and eight other nations are close behind. My major concern is California. With a $19 billion budget deficit, and a Democrat-controlled Sacramento legislature that will refuse to approve Schwarz's welfare cuts, that state is ready for a major fall. And it's welfare programs that are slated to be axed. The only viable option is for Obama to reach into his bag of bailout tricks and offer them $billions. That will impact the U.S. severely. But it will put CA (think Hispanic vote) into Obama's hip pocket, as the majority receiving welfare entitlements are Latino.
You are long overdue for another hub. Are you feeling ill?
Yes, of course. I'm usually among the first as I check daily.
Anyway, you are correct that the Euro is destined for life support. Substitute California for Greece, and Obama's federalized daycare for Brussels -- and there you have it. Interesting parallels.
You people are fear-mongering idiots. First of all, SocSec was never designed to be the sole income of old people, it was supposed to be a supplement. Secondly, it's going broke because our birth rate is down, not because of abortion. Third, there will ALWAYS be some money for people putting money into it...just not the CRAZY way it's being distributed now. Fourth, taxation for SocSec is regressive and hurts poor people most because taxes are curtailed at $82,000 of income. We should increase that to AT LEAST $100,000 of income and cut back on payments to dependents who never put in a nickel. That alone would shore it up for decades. What may end up happening is that retirees will be means-tested and get a scaled income. Remember -- the maximum an individual can get is $26,000, not a whole lot of money no matter who you are. SocSec is the single biggest screw up in the country but it's a good idea and can and will be around for people, not just in the way people expect.
Finally, we must never forget that George W. Bush destroyed our nation.
Oh, the con men have been after SS for years. It's not just to raid the surplus. It is to make seniors suffer to help depopulate. Just like those toxic vaccines. Don't believe standard disinfo media. The truth is only available online. Everything bad that has happened the last ten years is by design to prepare for climate change. Elites are divesting and outsourcing all wealth. Even the BP spill in the gulf was no accident. Old country bankster elite in bed with the royals want to destroy America, the land that saved them in the Great War. We consume too much and contribute too much to climate change. We have our head in the sand as to the true enemy. Evil is not a public address system. It lurks in the shadows, overtly hard to believe. Go Google JFK's secret society speech. And watch the present and future come into focus. We are doomed. George Orwell was right.
hubbers
In 2000 Bush attempted to revamp social security.Democrats preferred the status quo. Well this year, the social security trust pays out more than it takes in.
Don't worry, Barak Obama will get the money.
This is what the SSN office sent me after i requested some proof of the law requiring a SSN Number...

DearMr._
This is in response 10 your letter requesting the law that requires the use of II Social Security number.
The Social Security Act does not require a person to have a Social Security number to live and work in the United States, nor does it require a Social Security number simply
for the purpose of having one. However, if someone works without a Social Security number, we cannot properly credit the earnings for the work performed, and the worker may lose any potential entitlement to Social Security benefits.
Other laws require people to have and use Social Security numbers for specific purposes.
For example, the Internal Revenue Code (26 V.S,c. 6109 (a» and applicable regulations (26 CFR 301 .6109-I(d» require a person to gel and use a Social Security number on tax
documents and to furnish the number to any other person or institution (such as an employer or a bank) that is required to provide the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
information about payments to that person. There are penalties for failure to do so. The IRS also requires employers to report Social Security numbers with employees' earnings.
In addition, people filing tax returns for taxable years after December 31 , 1994, generally must include the Social Security number of each dependent.
The Privacy Act regulates the use of Social Security numbers by government agencies.
They may require a Social Security number only if a law or regulation either orders or authorizes them to do so. Agencies are required 10 disclose the authorizing law or
regulation. If the request has no legal basis, the person may refuse to provide the number and still receive the agency's services. However, the law does not apply to private sector organizations. Such an organization can refuse its services to anyone who does not provide the number on request.
We hope you find this information helpful.
Sincerely,
Annie White

Definitely the rich need to be taxed more and the middle and lower classes taxed less.
Look at films like The Corporation or Capitalism: A Love Affair. Corporations are global psychopaths. If a regular person acted the way corporations do they would be locked up. The the idea that any of us could become super rich and not pay taxes is what perpetuates the plutocracy of this land.
Bring back democracy while we hopefully still can. And live while you are young. Partying when your 65 will just help you into the grave faster.
Brie I don't think this world is going to be around much longer anyway. But as a side note Anthony Weeniedog the congressman from New York said the other night that SS was rock solid. Yeah I buy that !
As Usual you are 100% correct.
It is stealing.
Nice job! I agree with you.
The one thing no one thinks about and goes back directly to esteemed politicians is identity theft.
Identity theft has been around for centuries but government has made it so much easier. Today it revolves around a single piece of information called your Social Security Number. And everyone you have done business with has it. It is more popular than your name.
One would think that government would enact a law limiting the SS# for SS only and making it unlawful for any company to ask or use it.
Companies use the excuse that your SS# is the only way to identify your account. I've spent 30 years in IT and I will tell you that is a lie. The truth is it is a universal number and makes it a whole lot easier to find more info about you.
Always enjoy reading your blog Brie!
When one chooses to post "facts" on critical issues it would behoove them to have their "facts" correct so as not to create confusion on said critical issues.
For sometime now the SS limit on wages was increased to $110,000.00.
@ this posting date of June 2, 2011 should EU or member states belly up the U.S. citizenry has no more than 2-4 weeks to decide.
Hang on everybody...........and I suggest you pray...hard.
Brie, this is such a great hub and so sad in the same light. I'm 30 now and suspect that by the time I go to retire my only security will be of my own investments. If and that's a big IF that social security is still available it will probably be so depleted that the amount I receive back will be no where near the amount I have been required to put into it.
