Slavery, Christianity and Abortion

Updated on April 13, 2022

Do you think abortion should be illegal?

I think it has been forgotten that the abolition of slavery was brought about almost exclusively by Christians and while Christians may have many spots in their historical past the abolition of slavery is not one of them. When you think about it, the abolition of slavery was a miraculous event. Every country that utilized slavery benefited enormously from it economically. That it could be eradicated throughout the majority of the world when it did benefit so many is a major miracle. How was this achieved? In fact, one person commented that in Britain the abolition of slavery was the equivalent of econocide (and yes I know that's not a real word). Furthermore, looking at Britain's economy today one might assume that he was right.

The abolition of slavery was brought about through the constant reminders by Christians that slavery was against the will of God, that the institution of slavery, as practiced in recent history, could not be justified against the word of God which states that God is no respecter of persons and to do unto others as you would have done to you. This constant barrage against the conscience of the people finally enabled slavery to be outlawed in Britain. The colonies took a little longer and with the violence of the civil war finally outlawed slavery.

In my opinion, it was the irreconcilable values of Christianity with slavery that enabled slavery to be overturned. The same is true of abortion.

The argument that fetuses are not living human beings has all but been put to death thanks to modern medical science. We can now look at these babies in the womb and see that they are living beings that when threatened will actually recoil in a futile attempt to save their own lives. And as far as I know, nothing but human beings are birthed by human beings!

The argument that the child is simply part of the mothers body really doesn't hold weight either since that may provide the mother with 4 eyes, two blood types and a penis. It is quite evident that the child is separate from the mother's own body but simply residing in her body for a short time.

As with slavery, abortion is an act that is completely selfish and self-serving (on the face of it). The mother doesn't want to carry a child for 9 months, or what really may only be 7 months because she usually doesn't find out she is pregnant for a month or two. She has the option of adoption but may consider it to shameful to carry the child, so she aborts him or her.

The case against abortion is the same as with slavery, God is no respecter of persons and therefore all human beings are made in his image and do unto others as you would have done to yourself, in other words, you would not want to be murdered, therefore do not murder.

As with slavery abortion is a lucrative trade, paid for either privately or publicly, giving no reason to abolish it other than it is wrong.

Moreover, as with all sin, there is a price to pay personally as well as nationally. With slavery that price has been strained race relations, poverty and crime. Abortion has eradicated over 53 million persons since Roe v. Wade in America alone. Who can say what the economic impact of all those people would have been. 53 million tax payers alone might have made a huge difference in social security alone, as it is now we can no longer fund this one program.

However, personally I can't help wondering about all the women out there who had abortions and then never had children. I can't help wondering because I had a child out of wedlock and he has been my greatest source of joy. I wonder if the real price of abortion is incredible loneliness and regret.
