The odds of actually dying from a “supposed” terrorist strike is less likely than winning the lottery TWICE! I've been racking my brain as to what the real agenda could be for implementing these body scanners (besides the obvious humiliation and power grab).
In every totalitarian regime in history one of the first freedoms to be scrapped has been the freedom of movement. If a totalitarian regime cannot control movement they cannot control anything. What is it that we do when someone has been convicted of a crime? We restrict their movement, we put them in prison. If it is a minor offense they may be given house arrest and simply be confined within their home. It is the primary method of control. Even as parents we use this in the form of a time out. What is the first thing that the Nazi's did to the Jews, they identified them through the yellow arm band and later through a tattooed number (compliments of IBM) and then they confined them to the ghetto, later the concentration camp and then to death.
The body scanner built by the company RAPISCAN (yes that is the company's real name!) identifies you by getting your one and only body print and matches to your name and if you refuse to be molested, it severely limits your freedom of movement via air travel. They are already talking about using these methods in bus terminals and on trains.
The 4th Amendment states:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO BE SECURE IN THEIR PERSONS!
Demanding that we be molested, a term that almost all states agree includes being touched on your private parts outside your clothes (misdemeanor) and inside your clothes is usually a felony, in order to be able to fly is outrageous. Additionally, that we be radiated, and identified via the RAPEISSCAN body scanners in order to fly is unconstitutional and unnecessary. The underwear bomber got on the plane without a passport and if a terrorist really wanted to blow up a plane they would simply put the bomb inside their body (something the RapeisScan Body Scanner would not see).
If we lay down for this we will lay down for anything. There is no doubt that we are on the fast track to a fascist tyrannical government the likes we have never seen in America.

You are right, Brie, we have to speak out against this before they spread it to other/all public areas. Speak to our fellow citizens, our representatives, anyone we can. Talk about the fourth amendment and how we have to stand up for our freedom. I just heard a thing on the TV about how our soldiers are still out there fighting for our freedoms. Freedoms? The ones our government are eroding more and more everyday? I wonder if killing people in Iraq or Afghanistan constitutes protecting our freedoms but, I know we as citizens have to do as much as we can to fight for our freedoms here inside this great country. Keep writing them. keep voting them out. Keep voting with your money. Until they get the message.
Brie, I was just reading some editorials by community people here in Milwaukee. There was a little protest at the airport against the TSA but it fizzled out fast. The editorials were written by people who talked about patriotism, and how "If this is what the government has to do so we can be safe, so be it." I guess when it comes to wanting to feel safe, too many people are more than willing to redefine "unreasonable search and seizure" and "upon probable cause," to "search us for whatever reason you want, whenever you want." Peace.

how much does each scanner cost?.. times that by a few at each terminal at each and every airport and you can see the problem... follow the money as usual. I'll bet mr. redshield and his chronies made money hand over fist on that deal.

It is certain that we are going down a dark path, Brie. I am so glad that the rapture will take us out of the worst of it, but it is the Christian's responsibility to do all they can to maintain Bible principles in our government. DHS waited almost 11 months after the Christmas Day underpants bomber - why? They could have begun using the 'enhanced' pat-downs right away - except they're time-consuming. So - according to their own reasoning, we had 11 months at greater risk while they waited for the new X-ray machines. It doesn't add up. I think you're on the right track - it's all about taking away our rights.
The more I look into it, the more I don't like it.
It may be simpler than that. The government owns AmTrack. Maybe they're just using intimidation and humiliation to force people to buy their stuff. It's how it works in the Chicago mob ... you know for garbage service and linens ... and just coincidentally(?), our president's political home.

Excellent view of this horrible situation. I resent being treated as a terrorist until proven innocent. The hideous truth is that the only result of this intrusive program will be to radiate and humiliate thousands of Americans who simply want to or need to travel. At this point I think I want to stay home.!
I think we need to do more than just stay home, you need to call your congressman/woman over and over until it's stopped. We can't just let them get away with this.

But that raises the questions, am I willing to be molested just because I want to go on vacation? And what about letting a stranger view your children.
Personally, I think the thing to do is to go...take a copy of the 4th amendment and a copy of your states sexual abuse laws and insist on NOT going through the scanner or being molested and argue with them until they let you through. Also make sure to video or tape the whole thing. If we just stop flying they will have won and besides that they are going to implement this everywhere if we don't stop it now.

Your article contends that the images from the body scanners store images taken (or use an image taken as identification in the future) and that you are offered no alternative to the scan.
While I don't wish to seem mean I do wish to tell you that these scanners do not store images, there's no point nor is such an idea constitutional (the government has an incentive to avoid something overty unconstitutional, if the people dislike it then they lose their jobs. There is literally no gain from storing images of people's bodies, because there are so many people. You can't identify a person by a body image alone.
Also, you say that they restrict your movement (what I read as not allowing you to fly) if you did not submit to the scan. That is not correct, people who do not wish to participate in the scan or are unable to (such as people wearing pacemakers, which may be interfered with by radiation) are offered a pat-down scan by hand, it takes about five minutes if they don't find anything they construe as suspicious, it really isn't that troublesome.
Seriously, all these scanners are meant to do is detect things that a metal detector doesn't. Terrorists realize that they go through metal detectors at the average airport and stop carrying metal, there are plenty of wonderful explosive devices and weapons out there that are not made of metal. Plastic explosive, although costly, is quickly becoming the normal equipment for terrorists because it can let them get through metal detectors. It really is that easy, I don't see how more people aren't concerned that we weren't doing this before.

If you do not submit to an intrusive naked body scan then you are forced to submit to sexual abuse. In almost all states touching someone in their private area with clothes on is a misdemeanor underneath clothes is a felony.
These procedures are clearly against the 4th Amendment. The Terrorists (by that I assume you aren't talking about our government) could easily get a private plane and jam it into a building or put explosives inside their body and get through these naked body scanners.
As far as I'm concerned anyone who wants to do away with any of the Amendments is a traitor to their country and should be prosecuted!

The scanners will NOT stop anything. A terrorist could easily take a private plane or put something inside their body. Didn't you see the footage from the Pilot in Sacramento? It showed how easily someone could get in from other areas.

I like your variety of subjects, as Im looking at everybody else intelligent as a role model, because I just joined, and am still trying to get my syntax unscrammbled from 20 years ago.
I ve read from many smart analysts that the TSA is going about security all wrong with these porno scans. They should just scan everybodies bag curbside like they do elsewhere. there are more people in the terminal after all than on one plane.

What is another reason why they have this security installed? It acts to decrease the surplus population - people, especially frequent flyers will die sooner from the radiation
