Why and How I Became a Christian
62The God Who Is There
I would say that the primary reason that I am a Christian is because when I first called out to God, Jesus answered me. Prior to that I searched for the meaning of life and looked in a great many areas including drugs, sex and the occult. I was only 17 when I was saved but I had started getting involved in the occult at the age of 11. At that age I would go to the library and check out demonology and witchcraft books and I started to read and follow what they said. Not long after I started dabbling in the occult I started becoming oppressed. I believe it was a direct result of my occult activities. I started having demonic visions and deep depressions, I also started self-mutilating by cutting myself. One day when I was going under one of these depressions I called out to God to help me and to show me that he existed. He answered me on the spot, the room brightened and the presence of God filled the room, it was gloriously overwhelming. I had met the living God and my life would never be the same.
That was the beginning. Since I was raised Catholic and knew practically nothing about the Bible I started to learn as much as I could. Prior to becoming a Christian I tried reading the Bible and could not understand it. After I became a Christian I read the Bible over and over again and studied it inside and out and understood it. The Bible itself says that the“natural man discerneth not the things of God”. I discovered that there were no contradictions in the Bible but instead found out that for every supposed contradiction there was a reasonable answer. I have a very curious mind and I followed every objection studying Christian Apologetics (the reasons for faith) until my own curiosity was satisfied. Not only did Christianity make perfect sense to me,the prophecies that were given thousands of years ago were also evidence for the truth of the scriptures. At some point it would have taken more faith for me to disbelieve than it did for me to believe the Christian message. The answers provided by the Christian faith satisfied every intellectual curiosity I had ever had about the world; why we were here, who God was and what happens after death. All this time my close personal relationship with God grew.
This is not to say that living the Christian life was easy. It most certainly was not and I failed more times than I would like to admit, but those were my failures and not God's. Jesus has never failed me and ever since that day in February over 31 years ago He has been there for me.
So for me, the reason I am a Christian is threefold; my personal relationship with God, my intellectual curiosity having been fulfilled and because of the surety of prophecy. For me, after 31 years of being a Christian it would still take more effort and faith for me to disbelieve than to believe.

So after 31 years you still feel it's a responsible adult decision to pretend that you have an invisible friend in the sky, and that he gives you super powers just because you pretend he exists?
Real life is calling, Brie. It's hard to face sometimes, sure, but that doesn't mean you should be intentionally ignorant of it.
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. The ignorant calling the wise of God ignorant? The truth of God speaks again in Eph 4:18 "They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart."
Understand this, blah blah blah ~ Acts 17:30 "Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent." That includes you. Stop persecuting the Lord Jesus who died for your sins to save you.
When one meet God, nobody can steal this experience from him or her even we sometimes walk in flesh. But walking in the spirit, boy, it is something else.
I am so glad you shared this testimony, sis.
Brie, that was a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing that with us. It doesn't matter how you came to God. He was ready for you no matter what path led you there.
My story involves me leaving Christ, and returning. But when I came back, it was like I had never left, even though I had hurt him along the way.
Great hub!! I like your testimony, mine is similar.
Actually, I never posted my testimony yet, but maybe soon.
Brie a pleasure to read your testimony and your honesty.
Dear Brie Hoffman, Thanks for sharing your great life experiences. I also love and trust on Christianity since it's preaching the decent way of getting spiritual enlightenment. Though I am Hindu by birth, I never forget to worship my Lord Jesus in my daily life!
Brie Hoffman, Wonderful Inspiring Testimony of God's Omnipresence! God truly is Awesome! Thank you for sharing this marvelous, heartfelt account of how the Lord transformed your life! What Peace knowing that the Lord knows the sincerity of our hearts! "Seek ye first His kingdom and His righteousness and ALL these things will be added..." Matthew 6. His promises are all TRUE! Wonderful! Peace & Blessings! To GOD Be The GLORY!
Powerful testimony, and I felt the same way after getting discernment of the word, life made sense then, and the bible has every answer you will ever need to know, and the reason people find it contradictory is lack of the Holy Spirit who gives all knowledge and understand of the word to us. You could be a powerful witness to teenagers. I rejoice over your life and that you got delivered from the devils lies. He so attacks young people. You are such a beautiful person inside and out. Praise God! What renewed mind and testimony of regeneration.
that was a great inspiration piece, thank you
Thanks for sharing Brie. I have a similar testimony and had not God made a decision to rescue me I would be a dead man. I watched numerous friends die from drugs and disease.
I have found out that it takes more energy and work to disbelieve because you have to convince yourself everyday of the denial you live in. And it's not so much where you will go when you die, it is actually the sadness of denying yourself the pleasure of a beautiful relationship with Christ and God the Father that will be the greatest devastation to the soul. To WANT judgement over mercy shows me that Christianity is not representing God's love at it's very best. We must remember where the judgement starts.
Be blessed and be a greater blessing to others. St.L.
Amen! I struggled alot with the same things but I came to realize I needed to be saved! I actually think the trials a Christian goes through are harder then a non-believers but God needs to know where we stand. Being saved doesn't by no means mean a happy life on earth! Thats where people misunderstand Christianity. God loves us all, if it was proof enough thru what He did with Jesus, then I don't what is! Anyways awsome page! THUMBS UP!
Brie...thankyou for writing your testimony...every story is different, and special
Unfortunately there won't be a heaven for me because I'm Jewish. At least that's what folks like you believe

WOW, what a testimony! I just happened to catch a show on TV yesterday about a woman who dabbled in the occult (Wicca), searching for "control" of her life, using the occult powers to "bless" her. Over time, the "sprites" showed up and the dark demons scared her so badly she burned up her altars to these false gods (Isis, etc.).
You are so right about the “natural man discerneth not the things of God”. God only reveals His truth to those who sincerely call upon Him to be saved. I rejoice with you, sister; He is so faithful to deliver us from evil!! He truly calls us out of darkness into His marvelous Light!
